EPB equipment failure creates major power outage

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Electric Power Board reports what caused a major outage this evening during the dinner hour.

Around 5:30 PM, a piece of equipment failed, which caused a cascade affect.

At its peak, 13,000 customers lost power.

Most were north of the river in Moccasin Bend, North Chattanooga, Red Bank and Hixson.

EPB says they were able to restore most of the power within an hour.

But as of 8 PM, they still had about 200 who needed more repairs.
