Ooltewah Quarterback Kyrell Sanford–“He’s a Football Player”
Ooltewah, TN-(WDEF-TV) Ooltewah’s Kyrell Sanford is what every coach dreams of in a dual threat quarterback. He can scramble and run, and scramble and throw.
So even if you have him defended, you can still feel defenseless.
Kyrell Sanford looks like a QB.
Plays like an LB.
Said head coach Scott Chandler:”He’s a football player. He could play other than O-line. He could probably play any position on the field, so that’s the type of guys we have back there pulling the trigger. Guys know that, and they respect that of him.”
And like any good quarterback, Sanford is cool under pressure.
Said Sanford:”Butterflies have been out of my stomach for a long time. Since about my 9th grade year, I really haven’t had butterflies in awhile. I walk out there. I know it’s my time. It’s my senior year. I’ve got to lead my team to victory.”
Said Chandler:”I think that’s one of the things that helped us against Bradley. We were down, but he was so even keeled. They looked to him to lead them. He wasn’t getting excited, so definitely him being that way helps.”
It might be hard for the 5-11 Sanford to see over the defense, but he can see the passing lanes.
Said Chandler:”Sliding in the pocket you know if somebody is in his way. He’ll slide one way or the other to find an opening. The other thing is he is so dangerous to run it. We don’t get too much pressure put on us because if you put pressure on us, and he gets outside, he can go all the way at any time.
Said Sanford:”We’ll drop back, and they’ll have man-to-man coverage, and they will have everything covered beautifully. And just in that one little split second they leave open for me, and I take it. I pick up the first down, and I hear their coach on their sideline, ‘You got to watch the quarterback’.
Said Chandler:”You know we’ve had to get on to our linemen that when he’s back to pass, no matter how long you’re setting there, you can’t ever release to go down field because we don’t know if he’s going to run it or not. He can run around back there for ten seconds and find somebody to throw it to.”
