AAA Urges Drivers to Prioritize Safety as New School Year Begins
As the new school year begins, AAA urges drivers to stay alert and follow crucial safety guidelines to protect students on their way to and from school.
“The early days of the back-to-school season are partially dangerous due to the combinations of young inexperienced drivers, pedestrians Bicyclists who all share the road in the early morning. When driving in the school zone it is important to lower your speed and raise awareness to ensure that you can respond to any hazard” said Megan Cooper with the Auto Club Group.
AAA’s recent survey reveals that most Tennesseans’ daily commutes include school zones or bus stops. However, only 74% feel confident about the laws regarding school buses. AAA offers several key safety tips to help drivers navigate school zones safely:
“Make sure that you are coming to a complete stop, research shows that more than 1/3 of drivers roll through stop signs and neighborhoods. Ensure you are checking carefully for children on sidewalks, and eliminate those distractions. Research shows taking your eyes off the road for two seconds doubles your chances of crashing” said Cooper.
By staying alert and adhering to traffic laws, we can all contribute to safer roads for everyone.
