CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- An affidavit sheds light on the circumstances behind the shooting at a homeless encampment on Signal Hills Drive last Thursday.

Chattanooga Police say that 61 year old Donnie Campbell shot a 55 year old man before fleeing the scene on a bike.

Witnesses told police that Campbell got into an argument with the victim and claimed they stole something from him.

That’s when he took out a 22 revolver and shot him in the abdomen.

Witnesses say that he showed that revolver to other people at that camp and threatened them if they talked with police.

Campbell has a long rap sheet according to Hamilton County Court records dating back to at least 19-90.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.

Campbell is being charged with attempted first degree murder among other charges.

He is in custody at the Hamilton County Jail on a one million dollar bond.
