Amy-O-Meter: Salvation Army Purse Auction
Since it has been a while since my last ‘Amy-O-Meter’ blog posting, I think it’s a good time to remind people about what the Amy-O-Meter is. I was lucky enough to spend the first decade of my television news career working as a meteorologist, and during that time I developed the Amy-O-Meter to arbitrarily rank the weather for the next day, on a scale from 1 (worst) to 10 (best.) Since I made the leap from meteorologist to anchor, I wanted to keep the Amy-O-Meter because who doesn’t love ranking things based only on how they feel?
But I digress…
The Salvation Army purse auction deserves a ranking for the fact that the 40 Women’s Auxiliary volunteers spend the year searching for purses, that they buy at their own expense, and then seek out donations to fill the purses with goodies like cosmetics, jewelry, restaurant/car wash/dry cleaning gift certificates, vacations, spa packages and golfing packages at some of Chattanooga’s nicest courses. The biggest and best donations (coupled with pricey designer handbags) get auctioned off during a lunchtime live auction, and after getting a look at this year’s auction items I have to say there should be some high bidders since the purses are even coordinated to match the winnings. (Let me just say any Tennessee or Alabama football fans need to check it out this year!)
The Women’s Auxiliary of the Chattanooga Salvation Army’s 12th Annual Purse Auction/Luncheon happens Thursday September 10th from 10:45am-1:00pm.
