Annual CPD Report Shows Violent Crime Declines
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Police Department says violent crime continued to decline in 2025, according to the department’s newly released annual report.
The report shows homicides dropped nearly fifty percent compared to the previous year, while non-fatal shootings and crimes against persons also decreased across the city.
During an interview with News 12, Chattanooga Police Chief John Chambers said “the department’s long-standing use of data and intelligence has helped officers focus resources on individuals and locations connected to violent crime.”
Chambers also said cooperation across multiple bureaus within the department has played a major role in the reduction.
The report states CPD’s homicide clearance rate reached ninety-three percent in 2025, which the department says is significantly higher than the national average.
Chief Chambers emphasized that community cooperation remains one of the most important tools in solving violent crimes, indicating partnerships with residents have had a major impact on investigations and public safety efforts throughout the city.
Despite the improvements, Chambers said the department does not plan to ease its focus on violent crime reduction efforts.
“We had a good year, so therefore we’re done… that’s not going to be a thing,” Chambers said. “We’re going to remain focused on the violence committed in our city.”
The department says the declines come alongside continued crime reduction strategies and ongoing community partnerships.
