Are you afraid of self-driving cars? Most of us are.
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – Several companies are trying to crack the nut of self-driving cars.
But the greatest obsticle could be us humans.
A new AAA survey finds that three out of four of U.S. motorists are afraid to ride in a self-driving car.
The respondents feel the technology is too new.
But those of us who actually own a vehicle with semi-autonomous features are much more likely to trust the technology.
“Consumers should always educate themselves concerning new car technology to fully understand the pros and cons,” said Don Lindsey, TN Public Affairs Director, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “I think the key to acceptance will be the safety features and consumers’ awareness that these features could potentially save their lives.”
But we’re not anti-technology.
In the survey, 61% of us want a least on of the following technologies in their next vehicle: automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, self-parking technology or lane keeping assist.
But the bottom line is that 84% of us now trust our own driving skills over the technology.
Maybe this reaction explains our love/hate feelings for the new tech.
