Arson & Desecration at National Cemetery

Chattanooga (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Fire Department is investigating a small fire at the National Cemetery.

A groundskeeper found the charred remains of flowers and small flags at the wall where cremated remains are interred.

Investigators believe the fire happened sometime between last Friday night and this morning.

It caused minimal damage.

But Lt. Henry McElvain with the Fire Investigation Division says desecration of a grave is a serious offense.

If the perpetrator, or perpetrators, are caught, they could face local and federal charges.
