Asian Lantern Festival Nears Its Final Nights at Chattanooga Zoo

If you’re looking for something fun to do before winter break winds down, the Chattanooga Zoo is giving families one last chance to step into a glowing world of fantasy.

The Asian Lantern Festival is nearing the end of its run, featuring hundreds of illuminated lanterns making up nearly 50 displays. This year’s theme, Forest of Fantasy, highlights unicorns, dragons, and other mythical creatures.

“The festival is kind of our unique take on holiday lights,” said Jake Cash, Director of Marketing and Communications at Chattanooga Zoo. “You come to the Zoo at night and see lots of really cool lantern displays, and we do a totally new collection every year.”

The Zoo is also welcoming special guests for the final two nights. Elsa and Anna from Disney’s Frozen will be on site for meet-and-greets and photos, included with festival admission.

“People really love Anna and Elsa,” Cash said. “We wanted to end the festival on a high note, and the meet-and-greets are free with admission.”

Many of the lanterns move, change colors, and blow bubbles, creating an interactive experience for visitors of all ages.

“A lot of the lanterns have animatronic components and really bring the displays to life,” Cash said.

The Asian Lantern Festival wraps up soon at the Chattanooga Zoo, with tickets available online.
