Assault leads to self defense shooting on Duncan Avenue

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) — Chattanooga Police were called to the 2700 block 6th Avenue Court shortly before 11 am Sunday morning for reports of a person shot.

Police say that Dieshunn Lindsey was suffering from a non-life-threatening gun shot wound when officers arrived on scene and was taken by EMS to a local hospital.

However, the crime scene was not on 6th Avenue Court.

According to Chattanooga Police, the shooting took place in the 2000 block of Duncan Avenue after a disorder between Lindsey and Latesha Hinton.

Police say that Lindsey attempted to assault Hinton and others just before the shooting took place.

Investigators with Chattanooga Police determined that Hinton reasonably feared for her safety as well as the safety of others around her and shot Lindsey in self defense.

Charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment against Lindsey for this incident are pending at this time, but police say that Lindsey was arrested on unrelated outstanding warrants.
