ATHENS, Tenn. (WDEF) — Students at Athens City Intermediate School recently held a fundraiser of Moon Pies for military troops.

As part of the Moon Pie sale, people had the option to purchase the desserts for actively deployed troops.

The students sold $14,000 worth of Moon Pies for those troops.

On Tuesday afternoon, a convoy of National Guard and Athens City Firetrucks escorted a truck delivering the moon pies to Athens City Intermediate School. Children stood outside and cheered as the trucks arrived.

The Moon Pie fundraiser took place during September.

The $14,000 worth of Moon Pies will go to Fort Campbell to be distributed by the USO.

Athens Intermediate School is comprised of third, fourth and fifth grade students.
