Auburn and Tennessee Dealing With Offensive Struggles Ahead of Matchup on the Plains
Tennessee heads to Auburn with the last place offense in the SEC.
And surprisingly, the Tigers offense hasn’t been much better.
Auburn hasn’t scored 30 points against an F-B-S team this season, and they already have two conference losses.
The Vols haven’t won an SEC game since 2016, and yet it seems Auburn’s struggles are over-shadowing Tennessee’s.
Said Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn:”Anytime a team is not playing up to their potential, it’s a coaching issue. That’s my responsibility. Our backs are against the wall with how we want to finish this thing. Playing at home. I expect our group to be extremely, extremely hungry on Saturday. And I think you’ll see. I think you’ll see a difference in our offense in teh second half. I really do.”
And Coach Pruitt would likely agree with Malzahn’s assessment.
Said Pruitt:”To me his team’s have always gotten better as the season has gone. Most of the time when we have coached against them, it has always been at the very end, and they’re really dangerous when they get going.”
Malzahn may not call UT dangerous, but he’s familiar with Jeremy Pruitt.
Said Malzahn:”I’ve faced him numerous times. We know each other very well. The advantage they’ve got is they’ve had two weeks to prepare and get healed up and all that.”
Pruitt might wish he had two months to prepare for Auburn’s defense and their big boys on the line.
Said Pruitt:”You’ve got Derrick Brown. Marlon Davidson. Uh. 95. I’m sorry his name. I know it’s 95. He makes a bunch of plays, and he has been playing there for about ten years.”
Following a thanks coach from the press conference moderator to end the presser, Pruitt consulted his notes because he wanted everyone to know who 95 was.
Said Pruitt:”Dontavius Russell. I wasn’t disrespecting him. All right. (laughter) I wanted to make sure everybody knows that okay.”
