Avondale church hosts a block party

Orchard Knob Seventh-Day Adventist hosts a community fun day

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Nice weather made it a great time to have a block party.

The Orchard Knob Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Avondale did just that.

Several vendors were on hand to show local residents resources available to them.

But, there was a LOT of other things available too…

Parishioners and people who weren’t part of the church were able to go and get free food, and prizes like bicycles, microwaves, and vaccum cleaners.

The pastor of the church, Troy Brand, says the church wants to be good stewards of the neighborhood.

“We believe that we can’t just be in the community. We believe in being part of the community. It does us no good if we just sit on this corner, and we’re driving from outside of the city limits, have our worship experience and go home. We believe in being embedded into the community. That’s what we’re trying to do here.”

Orchard Knob Seventh-Day Adventist plans on having more events like this in the future.

They will all be in the name of being a good neighbor.
