Bama Heavy Favorites to Continue Their Series Winning Streak Against Tennessee
Last year when Tennessee battled Bama, they were ranked in the top ten.
This year, the Vols are unranked and struggling to find the end zone.
The forecast calls for a Tide route, unless Tennessee can stir up some rivalry magic.
Given Tennessee’s struggles this season, Alabama is favored by five touchdowns, but I wouldn’t tell Nick Saban that.
Said Saban:”Every team that you play in the SEC has good players, and they’re very capable of making plays. Regardless of what everybody thinks, these guys are going to come in here and try to give it their best shot and make their season with what they do in this game.”
Yes Bama is number one.
Yes Bama has won ten straight against the Vols.
But the UT players are keeping the Tide in perspetive.
Said defensive lineman Kahlil McKenzie:”It’s a storied rivalry that we look forward to every year. Just got to go down there and try to get a win in their house.”
Said receiver Brandon Johnson:”Alabama is a great team. It’s a team that obviously there’s a rivalry there. We’re not going to approach this week any different than any other week.”
If Tennessee is going to be competitive, they’ve got to get some offense.
They’ve gone ten straight quarters without a touchdown, while Alabama has 25 touchdowns during that same period.
Said Vols defensive coordinator Bob Shoop:”They’re playing really well. They’re playing with a lot of confidence. Starts upfront. Their offensive line with a lot of big butt and big legs. Come off the ball and work really well together.”
Said Vols head coach Butch Jones:”The thing with Jalen (Hurts) is he’s a very, very good quarterback that can make all the throws. He runs the football from his strength and athleticism. The ability to make the first defender miss with his speed, he turns into a running back.”
Said Vols offensive coordinator Larry Scott:”It really comes down to simply finishing plays. Have an opportunity to finish the play. The ball is there. The play is there. Just finish it.”
Said Jones:”You can not have pre-snap penalties. You go from first and ten to first and 15 or second and five to second and ten what have you. So it starts with command at the line of scrimmage.”
The Tide and Vols kick at 3:30pm, and the game will be televised on News 12 Now.
