Bank loan officer indicted for defrauding Rome bank
ROME, Georgia (WDEF) – A former bank loan officer and two alleged co-conspirators have been indicted for defrauding the River City Bank in Rome, Georgia.
Michael Craig Brewster worked for the bank.
“Bank insiders who allegedly abuse their position to illegally help themselves and their friends should take heed,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Kurt R. Erskine.
Prosecutors say LaDonna Barton of Menlo, Georgia asked the bank for a loan to buy some property.
They say Brewster approved the loan even though it contained several false statments.
Prosecutors say Barton and another man pocketed the money. The other defendant used some of it to pay off other outstanding loan payments.
All three defendants face charges of bank fraud conspiracy, bank fraud, and making false statements in a loan application.
