BB&T ATM & phone service back in business after outage

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (WDEF) – Customers of BB&T were cut off from their money for awhile on Friday, due to a “technical issue.”

ATMs and phone service broke down on Thursday.

The bank restored service by 11:30 Friday morning.

But they aren’t saying exactly what went wrong.

Here is the statement the bank released on Friday.

“The issue we’re working on was caused by an equipment malfunction in one of our data centers. We are well into the process of making those repairs, but we understand this is a major inconvenience for so many of you.”

Company officials added “we have no reason to believe this issue is related to cybersecurity.”
