BCSO warns of scam claiming individuals owe money for traffic offense
BRADLEY COUNTY — The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is warning locals of a scam involving claims that individuals owe money for a traffic offense.
They say message may include what looks like an official court document and it may instruct people to scan a QR code to pay a fine or face legal consequences.
Courts and law enforcement agencies do NOT send text messages demanding payment, requesting money, or asking you to scan a QR code to resolve a citation or warrant.
The BCSO asks individuals to keep the following in mind:
• Do not scan the QR code• Do not click any links or respond to the message• Do not send money or provide personal information
They ask if you receive a message like this, delete it and report it.
