The Bell of Hope for cancer victim’s last chemo treatment

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Children’s Hospital at Erlanger is celebrating patients’ last chemo treatments with the installation of the Bell of Hope.

Pediatric cancer patients in the Hematology and Oncology departments today rang the new bell, as a symbol of victory over cancer.

It commemorates their last day of chemo therapy treatments.

Caleb’s mother, Heather Ledford describes their ordeal.

“It was touch and go. We were in the hospital more than we were at home. Probably January he started doing great and better. He was probably not here as much as he was at home. So it transitioned. And now we just come once a month.”

The Bell of Hope, as well as its mounting plaque and a coordinating step stool, were donated by local individuals and organizations.
