Bessie Smith Cultural Center Names New Director

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF-TV) – Six months after the famed Bessie Smith Cultural center was rocked by a burglary and the arrest of a contract employee, a new executive director has been named.
Proceeds from the Bessie Smith Strut were taken from an unlocked drawer last June.
Employee Torrey Hines later turned himself in and was charged with the theft of 42-thousand dollars.
The board reviewed policies at the center and began a search for a new executive director.
Dionne Jennings took over today.

DIONNE JENNINGS "I’ve been on the board with the Bessie Smith Cultural Center for a few years now…so I’m very familiar with the organization —excited about this new opportunity. I think we have a chance to re-build some community relationships and just strengthen some partnerships ..And I’m really looking forward to this next year." >

Jennings previously served as regional director for Charitable Giving for the Sun Trust foundation.
