Biden, Trump hold dueling rallies in Georgia
ROME, Ga. (WDEF) – The Peach State was a hot battleground Saturday as the race for White House begins to heat up.
Both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump each made respective visits to Georgia today as they eye to capture its 16 electoral votes.
No love was lost between the two political rivals.
President Trump said of his rival, “Joe Biden should not be shouting angrily at America, America should be shouting angrily at Joe Biden.”
President Biden countered at his rally with, “When he says he wants to be a dictator, I believe him.”
Both presidential candidates were aiming to appeal to their core bases in Georgia.
President Trump traveled to Rome in Floyd County for his rally where he appeared with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.
In the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, he won Floyd County’s vote with nearly 70 percent of vote both times.
In contrast, President Biden made his stop in Atlanta.
In 2020, he won over 70 percent of Fulton County’s vote.
Both are hoping that they can get an advantage in Georgia’s urban-rural divide.
President Trump said, “We came from the airport, we’re 15 minutes away. The lines of people standing along the streets coming up to this building are incredible, incredible.”
President Biden said, “Three years ago you helped the Democratic ticket and won Georgia’s Presidential Election for the first time in 30 years.”
Both rallies were the first held since the State of Union address on Thursday.
First Lady Jill Biden said of that address, “I was so proud of him. You know Thursday night, Thursday night he gave a strong speech with a clear vision.”
President Trump says he’s ready to dispute that vision one on one.
He said, “For the good of our nation, it is time for crooked Joe Biden and myself to debate, we have to debate, it’s for the good of our nation.”
Georgia is holding their Presidential Primary on Tuesday.
