Bike Park Proposed In Chattanooga’s North Shore
The rumbling coming from the Olgiati Bridge is a familiar sound, but rumbling from underneath is not.
However, come 2018, the sound of rubber hitting a dirt trail could have a lot of people talking.
Trust for Public Land is proposing a free two and a half acre bike park under the bridge, similar to this park in Boulder, Colorado.
Judd De Vall, with Alpine Bike Parks, says, "I’m interested in creating something that will mix communities together and create interaction between different walks of life."
De Vall is the mastermind behind Alpine Bike Parks.
He’s bringing his ideas to Chattanooga, and asking the public for more.
De Vall adds, "I want to hear the community’s vision and help to elevate expectations and streamline the process, and be an asset to the community."
The Tennessee Department of Transportation has to finish the bridge widening and the road straightening project before the first bike jump can take shape.
Noel B. Durant, with the Trust for Public Land, says, "Before we can actually get the project through the TDOT land use process."
Trust for Public Land says while the orange cones are out on Highway 27, they’ll be refining their design for the bike park, and getting city partners on board.
Organizers say yes, a bike park under a bridge is unconventional, but it adds to Chattanooga’s unique culture, and the city’s bottom line.
