Bill Approved To Allow Teachers To Carry Guns

A bill in Tennessee that allows teachers to carry guns in schools has been approved.

On Wednesday, a house committee voted to expand the number of teachers in all school districts to be able to carry a gun. The school districts will be able to decide whether or not teachers will undergo training with certified private instructors, according to the Associated Press.

The reports also say that there will be one armed teacher for every 75 students.

Republican subcommittee chairman Representative Mike Carter of Ooltewah said he would prefer hiring more school resource officers. Carter also asked why there was not more funding for them. He said it would cost about $40 million to put a school resource officer in every school.
