Bill Would Increase Animal Fighting Spectator Penalties

Animal fighting is a growing problem in Tennessee but state legislature is advancing a bill that could help discourage participants.
Right now the fine for watching an animal fight can be up to 500 dollars.
With this new bill, animal fight spectators would be charged with a misdemeanor and up to a 25-hundred dollar fine.
It has already passed the state senate and still has to pass the house.
The hope is that less people will watch therefore there will be less fights.
In some states watching animal fights is a felony…but Humane Educational Society Ex. Director Bob Citrullo said a misdemeanor charge is a step in the right direction.
"We need to go after the spectators and that’s why we’re encouraged about this.  It needs to go through, it’s just time to stop this," Citrullo said.
If you suspect animal fighting happening you can report it to the humane society or McKamey animal center.
