Bishop names Hicks Armor as interim leader for Notre Dame High
KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – Bishop Richard Stika has appointed a Notre Dame alum to lead the school on an interim basis.
Deacon Hicks Armor will become the new Head of School.
Schmitt held the job for less than a year before suddenly resigning.
The diocese did not release much information when they announced it.
“This is to inform you that Kyle Schmitt has resigned as president of Notre Dame High School, effective immediately. We extend our best wishes to Mr. Schmitt as he pursues other opportunities in his career.”
But the moved came as the school was caught up in a controversy over their musical director.
He said he was fired because of his same-sex marriage and some students protested the move.
“Deacon Hicks is the right person to lead Notre Dame at this time,” Bishop Stika said. “He is a Notre Dame alumnus, and I am pleased that he graciously accepted my invitation to guide the school and the Notre Dame community until we can select a permanent Head of School.”
Armor is a graduate of both St. Jude, Notre Dame and UTC and helped formed their Alumni Association.
He will lead they school as they look for a permanent Head of School.
