Bledsoe County Detective Found Dead Latest

BLEDSOE COUNTY, Tennessee (WDEF) – The TBI is investigating the death of a Bledsoe County detective whose body was discovered on Slaughterhouse Road.

Ricky Seals died Tuesday morning but how he died is raising questions.

The investigation into his death began around 3:15 Tuesday morning after someone found his body and called 911.

"Authorities discovered his body here on slaughterhouse road early this morning; on the ground in front of his vehicle," said TBI spokesperson Josh DeVine.

According to sources close to the investigation, Seals contacted a family by phone around 10:30 the night before. But for some reason in the wee-hours of the morning, he ended up on Slaughterhouse Road.

TBI agents spent the morning searching his Jeep and the area surrounding the vehicle for clues. Despite yellow markers on the round, agents have yet to call Seals death a homicide.

"We are classifying and qualifying this as a death investigation at this point until evidence surfaces that leads us to believe this might be something else," DeVine said.

Investigators told reporters there’s not a lot of information to go on; but when asked if residents should be on alert of a potential killer, this was the response:

"Residents all ways need to be on alert and that’s why we’re asking for public assistance in this matter. If anyone saw anything or heard anything that might have seemed out of the norm, we would like for them to call 199-TBI-Find. It might seem insignificant to you but it might be the piece of information that helps our investigators piece this together," DeVine said.

According to both authorities and friends, Seals had been in law enforcement for three decades with a good service record.

"Law enforcement is a brotherhood. And anytime a department loses someone, we all feel it," DeVine said.

Seals was not on duty when he died.

A full autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
