Blood Assurance Asking for Donations to Help Marina Deck Victims

A birthday party turned wrong Saturday afternoon after a deck holding 40 people collapsed at Zoi’s Restaurant on Harbor Lights Marina. Eleven people were transported to the hospital, two of them with critical injuries.

Blood Assurance is asking for donations from any eligible donors to help victims in the fall. They are in critical need for blood after the accident and are requesting donations as soon as possible. Blood Assurance is currently sitting at under 1 day’s supply for most blood types. Ideally, they need at least a five days’ supply ready to go.

“This is a very critical need and we are asking anybody who can donate blood to schedule an appointment right now,” said Dr. Elizabeth Culler, medical director at Blood Assurance. “We are opening our North River center on Sunday in response to this accident.”

Blood Assurance’s North River Facility will open Sunday, May 2nd from 9am – 1pm to see donors in response to the emergency. Blood Assurance is urging all eligible donors to make an appointment to donate to help patients in need. All donors will receive a T-shirt at their donation and donors who give twice in 2021 will be entered to win a side-by-side vehicle.
