Blood needed after restaurant deck collapse

SODDY DAISY, Tenn. (WDEF)- A birthday party at Zoi’s Restaurant at Harbor Lights Marina turned tragic Saturday afternoon and now Blood Assurance says that their blood supply is low.

Officials say that more than 40 people were on the deck at the restaurant when it collapsed.

Hamilton County EMS sent 5 ambulances and 5 supervisors to the scene.

11 people were transported to the hospital, two of them with critical injuries.

Caitlin Stanley with Blood Assurance says, “So, we had to send over 130 units of O+ and O- red cells, platelets and plasma to help the victims due to the collapse in Hixson. So, it’s really important that we replenish that supply. So, it’s really the people that donated last week that saved people’s life. So, that’s why it’s so important to continue to donate year round because one donation can save three lives.”

Hamilton County Building Codes will inspect the deck to find the cause of the collapse.

If you would like to donate blood you can schedule an appointment with Blood Assurance.
