Blue Star Properties to not renew lease of English Rose Tea Room

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – English Rose Tea Room on Market Street is closing tomorrow after twenty years of business. For 2 decades, English Rose has been at the corner of Market and West 14th Street …. that is until the owner tells us Blue Star properties decided NOT to renew their lease.

Sharon Gilley says, “I can’t tell you how many people I’ve cried with over this.”

Jennifer Stribling says, “It’s so sad our city needs something like this.”

“It’s been a staple of Chattanooga,” says Emma McMinn.

Emma and Morgan were about to dine at the restaurant. However, The restaurant was packed this afternoon with people picking up last minute treats. With the news closing, there were longer than normal wait times with wall to wall customers.  Customers that Owner Sharon Gilley… says made this business worthwhile.

Gilley says, “I have the best customers in the world.”

Multiple generations have enjoyed the unique, authentic British tea and experience.

Morgan Gillette recalls, “I have memories of me and my mother coming here when I was a little girl and I mean if I had a daughter this is definitely somewhere that I would take her to relive those memories with my mother.”

Stribling says, “We are the scone bandits, haha and we’ve eaten here with my grandmother and it’s a fun place to come for all generations and we love it very much.”

The owner is now apologizing even though she says she fought hard to stay open. Gilley says, “this has been a big part of the disappointment so I’m just sorry about that but I can say this that I tried my best not to close.”

We reached out to Blue Star Properties for a comment and have not heard back yet.
