Bluesky Institute Holds Future in STEM Event

Students at the Future of STEM event creating instruments that are hydro powered.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- 100 female Hamilton County High School students got a true hands-on experience thanks to the Bluesky Institute.

Today they held their “Future of STEM” event at the Edney Innovation Center.

Students got to create musician instruments, Fitbits, and other technological creations.

Haley Wilson, the Student Recruitment Coordinator for the Bluesky Institute, said that, “We recruit from all over Hamilton County and we’re looking for students who have an enthusiasm for computer science who are fast tracking into their career.”

Michael Stone, the Vice President of Innovation Learning for the Public Education Foundation said, “It’s just really incredible what they’re doing in our community, the kind of opportunity they’re providing for students here in Chattanooga and Hamilton County is really unparalleled. This doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world”

It is a partnership between Bluecross Blueshield of Tennessee and East Tennessee State University.

Everyone who completes their program graduates with a Computer Science degree.
