UPDATE: Police identify body found in Dalton as missing man

DALTON, Ga. (WDEF) — Dalton Police have identified the body found near Shugart Road Sunday afternoon as 26 year old Colin Shropshire of LaFayette, Georgia.

According to police, he was last seen around 1:30 am Friday morning at the Cliffs Apartments which are on Shugart Road.

Shropshire was reported missing around 10 pm Friday night.

Dalton Police were looking for him in the Shugart Road area as reports said Shropshire left the Cliffs Apartments on foot.

Police say his body was spotted by a passerby around 1 pm Sunday afternoon between the Academy Sports and Home Depot on Shugart Road in a wooded area near the edge of a creek.

Dalton Police say his body will be sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Dalton Police also ask anyone with information regarding Shropshire’s death to call Detective Brian Shirley at 706-278-9085, dial 9 and enter extension 189.

According to police, the body was found in a wooded area off Shugart Road near the Walmart and Home Depot Shopping center.

Official say it is an adult male.
