Boyd Buchanan Football Team Looking For Fast Start in 2015
Chattanooga-(WDEF) After back-to-back seasons with a losing record, Boyd Buchanan is eager for a winning campaign this fall. But it won’t be easy for the Bucs, as they head into a super tough new region.
Last year was a tale of two seasons for Boyd Buchanan. They started 0-5 before going 5-0 to finish the regular season.
Said quarterback Cooper Hodge,"We definitely don’t want 0-5. We’ll just play our hardest and see where that takes us."
Said head coach Grant Reynolds,"Definitely need to get off to a better start this year. Our kids are more mature this year and a year older. I don’t think that will be an issue this year."
Said tight end Jack Keebler,"Us seniors, we know this is our last go-round. We’ve got to do it right this time. It kind of rubs off on everyone else."
And those mature kids Coach Reynolds talked about are talented.
Like tight end Jack Keebler, who has already committed to UTC.
Said Reynolds,"We have the ability to flex him out as a wide receiver and also put him down inside as a tight end. Both of those are good options for us."
Running back E.J. Matthews is healthy.
He missed the first half of last year with an injury.
Said Reynolds,"He rushed for over 600-yards the last five games of the season, so we’re glad to have him back at full speed."
The Bucs should also have some firepower on the offensive line.
Said Reynolds,"We’ve got four of the five starters coming back on the offensive line. We’ve got some depth there. I think we’ve got eight or nine kids that can back up those positions too. So we’ll feel good about our chances up-front."
Boyd will need to be big and strong to compete in their new region, which will include Tyner, Brainerd, Meigs Co, and Marion Co.
Said Reynolds,"Very tough region. I feel like it’s probably the toughest region in 2-A across the state that we’re in this year."
Added Hodge,"It’s going to be tough every week. We know it’s going to be a war, but we’re ready to play."
