Bradley Central’s Rhyne Howard Celebrates Making Team USA U-18 Team
Cleveland, TN-(WDEF-TV) Bradley Central basketball star Rhyne Howard will play in the local Tennessee-Georgia All-Star game Friday at 6pm at Notre Dame, and then later this summer, she’ll play for a national All-Star team. Howard was picked to play for the USA basketball under-18 team.
Rhyne Howard competed against 35 of the nation’s best 18-under players over the weekend in Colorado, and she was among the best, making the squad of twelve for Team USA.
Said Howard:”I was like. I did something right. Obviously I played good enough for them to notice me.”
Said Bradley Central head coach Jason Reuter:”This is something that’s a huge honor for Rhyne Howard, but not only Rhyne, but for the community and our school and the entire Bradley County.”
Howard started gaining confidence on day two of the try-outs.
Said Howard:”I think the second day was my best day. I was hitting my shots. I was doing good on defense. Everything was going for me.”
Said Reuter:”I just thought if she had a chance to prove herself in front of a panel of experts that I would be shocked if Rhyne Howard wasn’t one of the best players in the country.”
Howard reports back to Colorado on July 20th for a few days and then it’s off to Mexico for the FIBA Championships. Not a bad tune-up before Howard goes to Kentucky to start her college career.
Said Howard:”It gets me ready for the next level. I’ll be playing against most of them in college and in the SEC.”
Said Reuter:”This is a big deal for the University of Kentucky too. They’re very proud to say that we have signed not only a great player. Look this is what we thought we were getting, and other coaches are telling us we were right.”
Said Howard:”After Mexico I have to go straight to Italy with Kentucky. It’s going to be hard packing, but I’ll get it.”
Said Reuter:”Rhyne is making us all proud. I think we are going to see a lot of great things in the future from her.”
