Bradley County and Cleveland high schools holding blood drives to fight pediatric cancer
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF)- High school students in Bradley County will have the opportunity to psychically give back to their community this week.
Blood drives are being held at each of the three high schools to support pediatric cancer organizations in the Cleveland area.
Tuesday’s drive is at Cleveland High School in honor of the Grayson Foundation.
The Grayson Foundation was created in honor of the late Grayson Moser, who passed away from his fight with a pediatric brain tumor in 2021 just two weeks after he turned 16 years old.
He was a student at Cleveland High School, where teachers say they keep his memory alive with events like this blood drive.
Rachel Nicholas, a health science teacher at Cleveland High School said, “This is one of those little ways we can help that can make a big impact. One donation can save up to three lives, so we’re really trying to get the kids out here to donate as much as they can. That’s one little way we can help… So with pediatric cancers there can be what we call blood dycrasias, so they can be lacking certain cells and we can help get that back by doing blood transfusions for them.”
Walker Valley High School will host a blood drive Wednesday and Bradley Central High School will host a blood drive on Thursday.
