Bradley County Commission Approves $75K Fire Hall

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF) —  The Bradley County Commission has officially weighed in on a debated project at the Minnis Road fire station.

Earlier this month, the county’s Finance Committee voted unanimously to recommend against funding the proposal, citing tight budgets and limited resources.

That recommendation went before the full commission today, where members ultimately voted 12–1 to back the Finance Committee’s stance.

The decision means $75,000 will not be used at this time for clearing, leveling, and paving a section of the property, which would have provided more room for the department’s 60-foot ladder truck to maneuver around a new building being constructed next to the existing station.

Milan Blake Bradley County Commissioner stated that “This isn’t about saying no to fire and rescue, this is about asking is this the best use of funds right now. We’re talking about spending $75,000 to clear a piece of property roughly about the size of this room right here. $75,000 to clear out trees, shrubbery and stuff like that that’s a price tag or a small footprint”

The original plan, first estimated at $150,000, had been scaled back in hopes of moving forward.

County Mayor D. Gary Davis acknowledged the need but emphasized the importance of preserving funds for other critical projects.

Commissioners noted the work could still be revisited in the future if needed.
