Bradley County Commission approves Dalton Pike annexation by city of Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (WDEF)- After a contentious discussion last week over an annexation request, Bradley County Commissioners gained some clarification on the issue.

Cleveland city manager Joe Fivas said that a property owner, Aaron Ware, had requested that his 40 acre property along Dalton Pike be annexed.

Ware told commissioners that this was to gain city services for new commercial development including a medical office, pharmacy, and other retail.

Fivas explained that this was not a land grab initiated by the city.

He said, “We’ve said in our agreement that we can not and have no interest in annexing outside of this because if you are in his position you don’t want to split your property. The intent from the legislature is that your whole property is within one jurisdiction.”

The commission did vote to approve that annexation request.

Fivas said that the city will present a plan in the coming weeks to better coordinate first response services between the city of Cleveland and Bradley County.

This is because of concerns that a county fire station on Dalton Pike is within blocks of this property, while the nearest city fire station is over five minutes away on APD 40.
