Bradley suspect and hostage arrested after SWAT standoff

CLEVELAND, Tennessee (WDEF) – Neighbors who live in the Royal Oaks Subdivision are finally allowed to return to their homes after Bradley County deputies requested that residents stay away from the area following reports of a standoff and possible hostage.

Both, the suspect and hostage, have been taken into custody following this afternoon’s standoff. The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office has identified these individuals as Mark Clayton Cain and Andrea Pridgen.

The sheriff’s office says the two are boyfriend and girlfriend. They were wanted in Georgia on charges of a stolen vehicle. They’ll also be charged here in Tennessee.

Bradley County Sheriff Eric Watson says the Neighborhood Watch first alerted them about the suspect.

Reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area led a patrol officer to pull the vehicle over for a traffic stop where he discovered the car was possibly stolen.

Sheriff Watson says when the officer approached the couple’s vehicle, the male driver held a gun to the female passenger’s head, exited the vehicle, and forced entry into a home along Royal Oaks Drive appearing to take the passenger hostage.

Bradley County Sheriff’s Office says the residence belongs to an elderly woman who was inside during the standoff – resulting in a second hostage.

Sheriff Watson says that the owner safely escaped the home shortly after, stating “Swat patrol officers worked quickly to get the elderly woman from the home by escaping through a back window”.

Bradley County deputies surrounded the home for hours as they continued to negotiate with the remaining man and woman barricaded inside.

During this time students and neighbors were asked to stay away from the neighborhood.
