Brainerd basketball temporarily suspended after brawl
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – The TSSAA has suspended both the Austin East and Brainerd basketball teams from play after their brawl on Saturday night.
One students was injured when the fight broke out on the court and spread to the stands.
The game was suspended with Austin East leading 36-32.
In a letter to both schools today, the athletic governing body quoted one of their supervisors at the game who said the fight “was worst he has ever seen in 36 years.”
TSSAA told both schools that they must step up immediately and take responsibility for their players and fans actions.
Both schools must come up with remedies to make sure that it never happens again and send them to the organization for review.
Until then, both programs are suspended.
Executive Director Bernard Childress told News 12 Now that once an investigation has been completed and the schools have come up their corrective actions, the TSSAA will review the issue and determine whether the suspensions will continue for the full season.
