Brewer to be Extradited From Kentucky
That’s what authorities in London, Kentucky want to know.
The 39 year old truck driver was indicted yesterday in the June crash on I-75 that killed 6 people here in Chattanooga.
So far he has not been arrested on those charges.
Benjamin Scott Brewer is facing 13 counts returned by a Hamilton county grand jury.
Six of those charges are for vehicular homicide. Investigators also say Brewer had drugs in his system and had been on duty for 50 consecutive hours when he arrived in Chattanooga that night in June.
His truck crashed into a line of cars merging into one lane on I-75 killing 6 people.
But at last report Brewer was not in custody. Authorities say they have made several trips to his home without success.
When he is arrested Brewer be extradited from Kentucky. Normally its just a formality.
JERRY SUMMERS, CHATTANOOGA ATTORNEY "Ultimately, he will be brought back, unless there’s some evidence that he was not the person that committed the crime…and I think there’s pretty sufficient evidence that this truck driver was the person who was drivng the trailer rig that was involved in this unfortunate accident."
Brewer’s neighbors say they haven’t seen him.
DUSTIN BEWLEY, LONDON, KY. BREWER’S NEIGHBOR "To know something like that is going on this close. It’s something else."
The Hamilton county district attorney’s office is refusing to comment on the indictments or the extradition process.
But truckers, aware of the horrific wreck, are voicing their thoughts on highway safety, and on training for drivers.
SHAWN EVANS, BRIDGEPORT TRUCKER "There’s a lot of safe drivers out here but you know as time goes on there’s such a demand for truck drivers..they’re going to do what they have to do to put them in the seat."
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration calls Brewer an imminent hazard to public safety, and has banned him from driving.
