Butterfly Festival honors Katie Beth Carter

RINGGOLD, Ga. (WDEF)- Today was the fourth annual Butterfly Festival in Ringgold.

The festival is held at Heritage High School in honor of Katie Beth Carter.

Carter was 18-years-old when she was killed in a car accident on her way home from college.

Funds from the Butterfly Festival benefit the Katie Beth Carter Scholarship Fund.

Jason Carter, Katie Beth’s dad, says, “Coming up on the one year anniversary, we wondered what that was going to look like and how as a family are we going to navigate that. So, instead of locking ourselves up in our house and being depressed. We decided, let’s celebrate her life. It was our way to give back to the community that had been so supportive of us through our loss and our tragedy. It was also a way to celebrate her life and ultimately raise some money for the scholarships that are in her name.”

Live and Love Ministries gives out three scholarships a year from the proceeds.
