Freshman college band member from Ringgold killed in holiday weekend crash

PIEDMONT, Georgia (WDEF) – A Jacksonville State band member from Ringgold was killed in a car crash over the holiday weekend.

18 year old Katie Beth Carter was driving back to the campus when she collided with an 18 wheeler in Piedmont, Alabama.

She was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlant, where she died around 6PM.

Carter was a freshman Marching Ballerina at Jacksonville State University.

The Heritage High graduate had just performed at her first JSU football game against the University of North Alabama.

Her band director made the announcement on his Facebook page last night.
