Cagle vows to punish Delta Airlines for dropping NRA
ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – A frontrunner in the race for Governor of Georgia vows to take on Delta Airlines after the company cuts ties with the NRA.
Lt. Governor Casey Cagle tweeted today that he would retaliate against Delta for “attacking conservatives.”
Tweet: “I will kill any tax legislation that benefits Delta unless the company changes its position and fully reinstates its relationship with NRA. Corporations cannot attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back.”
Delta is headquartered in Atlanta and is a major employer and investor in the state.
The company is also asking Georgia to restore a large fuel tax break that was allowed to expire.
It is part of Governor Deal’s tax reform package.
Earlier today, Cagle’s main Republican rival, Brian Kemp, also announced his opposition to the Delta tax break, but for different reasons.
Tweet: “I oppose the proposed tax break because it puts special interests – not hardworking Georgians – 1st. Even after spending countless $$$ on lobbying & campaign contributions, the jet fuel tax exemption remains a raw deal for GA taxpayers.”
Delta is one of several national corporations that announced they would sever ties with the National Rifle Association after the Florida school shooting case.
Cagle had previously attacked the company’s decision, noting he is a lifelong NRA member and strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment.
Instead of cutting ties with the NRA, Cagle challenged the corporations instead to donate from their profits to mental health treatments and school safety programs.
“They should put their money where their mouth is instead of engaging in viewpoint discrimination against conservatives and law-abiding gun owners.”
