Calhoun High School vs. Elbert County High School

Calhoun, GA (WDEF) – On the Georgia prep scene, top-ranked Calhoun had to go to overtime last week to stay alive in the playoffs, and Friday night the Yellow Jackets had another dog-fight with Elbert County in the quarterfinal round.

The Yellow Jackets were thankful this match-up went down at the Reeve.

This was a defensive battle.

Yellow Jackets stingy defense bottles up the ball-carrier.

That’s enough to get the cow-bells going.

Elbert County’s defense proved to just as suffocating.

Calhoun’s Kaelan Riley buys some time, but he can’t buy an open receiver.

Blue Devils chase him down for the sack.

The only points for Calhoun in the first half came off the leg of Alex Flores.

He booted two field goals to make it 6-0.

The Yellow Jackets offense kept fighting.

Riley slings it to Jarrett Carden on 3rd and short and he looks down, but the refs called it a fumble on the field.

Calhoun coaches disagreed with that one.

Second straight week, Calhoun had to go to overtime.

This time triple O-T!

But the Yellow Jackets win it 33-30 to advance to the state semi-finals.
