Campaign Encourages July 4th Giving

NATIONWIDE, U.S.  (WDEF) – As Americans prepare for cookouts, parades and fireworks this Independence Day, a national initiative is encouraging people to add one more tradition to their Fourth of July celebrations… giving back.

Giving 4th, a campaign launched by America250, calls on Americans to pledge a donation to a nonprofit organization or cause of their choice.

The initiative aims to establish July 4 as a national day of charitable giving, alongside the holiday’s more familiar traditions.

America250 describes the effort as a movement to make giving back a permanent part of Independence Day celebrations.

The campaign comes as the nation prepares to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026.

America250 is the congressionally authorized, nonpartisan effort leading the nation’s semi quincentennial commemoration and is working to engage Americans through service, volunteerism and civic participation.

According to America250, charitable giving has traditionally been concentrated in the final weeks of the year, leaving many nonprofits with fewer resources during the summer months.

Giving 4th seeks to create a mid-year season of giving by encouraging donations around the Independence Day holiday.

Participants are asked to take a pledge and then make a charitable contribution on or around July 4 to any registered nonprofit organization they choose. America250 says the long-term goal is to make July 4 a permanent fixture on the national giving calendar.

The organization is also partnering with GivingTuesday to help track donations made through the initiative.
