Carver Park cleanup to take place Saturday
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Park stewards and volunteers will be cleaning up Citico Creek Saturday in honor of World Wetlands Day.
Dozens of people are gathering at Carver Park from 9 a.m. to noon.
They plan to clean up litter and trash to help protect the animals that live there.
Anyone can show up and help, or you can sign up online.
Sofia Rudakevych is the Parks and Outdoors Outreach Coordinator. She says, “litter destroys the habitat and the ecosystem, and we have a lot of interesting critters that actually call this home. So, there are crayfish here, different birds in the park area, there’s herrings, there’s hawks. The wildlife needs a clean home.”
Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors holds monthly projects like this one through their Park Stewardship program. It has been in existence for 12 years.
Its mission is to help the community give back to the parks through volunteering.
