Catoosa County Teenager hospitalized after a hit-and-run

CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga (WDEF) – A senior at Heritage High School has been hospitalized after being hit by a car near his home on Holcomb road last Wednesday evening.

18 year old Luke Stephens spent his birthday in the hospital suffering from a skull fracture, a collapsed lung, 11 fractured ribs, and a broken back- all as a result of after being run over by a car on Wednesday February 3rd.

“He spent his 18th birthday having major back surgery. He got 2 titanium rods, screws, plates put in his back. No ,we should not have had to do that. One week later my son is doing amazing and he is fighting like I have ever seen him fight before,” says Sandy Stephens, Luke’s Mother.

Law enforcement has since arrested 17 year old Jagger Haden Alegre for allegedly running over the teen and fleeing the scene. Alegre has been charged with aggravated assault.

The Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office says the incident is may to be a result of a dispute between Stephens and the people inside the vehicle.

It’s a nightmare, it really is. I am being strong for Luke but inside I am falling apart. It’s very difficult to see your child hurt and suffer from so much intense pain. This kid is a miracle. He shouldn’t be alive. His injuries were life threatening. God is working through this kid and our community. He didn’t deserve this,” says Stephens.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Luke’s Mom with medical expenses. If you would like to donate to this family,   you can find a link to the page here
