CFC Fall 2-1 to the City Islanders in Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup

Chattanooga-(WDEF) The CFC’s bid to upset a professional team in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday came up short
as the Chattanooga FC lost 2-1 to the Harrisburg City Islanders at Finley Stadium.
The CFC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute on a redirect header from Soren Yuhaschek.
With the score still 1-0 in the 71st minute, Craig Foster scored for the City Islanders.
Moments later, and Paul Wilson punched one home to give the City Islanders the 2-1 victory.
CFC coach Bill Elliott believes his team simply ran out of gas against the professionals.
Said Elliott,”-“I really think the difference was the professional fitness finally took over. We got a little sloppy. And they punished us. Like I said, the majority of the match, I think we out-played them. but you know, their quality showed through in the end.”
The City Islanders now advance to play the Philadelphia Union of the MLS.
The CFC will be back home on Saturday against Memphis.
