CGLA named Tennessee Charter School of the Year

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Students at Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy now have some bragging rights.

The school has just been named the Tennessee’s Charter School of the Year.

The Tennessee Charter School Center picked the all girls campus
as the state’s top charter school.

The group gave the school the 2019 State Charter Champion Award.

Maryo Beck is the Principal at CGLA.

“It just signifies that the work that our teachers students staff everyone here at CGLA, you know, the work is not going unnoticed.”

The school was selected because of its STEAM curriculum.

STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Aniyah Clemons is a Sophomore at the school.

“Our hard work is finally paying off and people are seeing us and recognizing that. It pushes us really really hard so that when we go into the world, we are prepared.”

The teachers say this recognition is well deserved.

Students agree they have come a long way in the school’s short life span.

CGLA just celebrated its tenth anniversary.
