Chatt. Symphony & Opera gets new Executive Director
John Kilkenny was director of Sewanee Summer Music Festival
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will get some new leadership this spring.
John Kilkenny will take over as Executive Director of the CSO on March 1.
He is currently an Associate Professor at George Mason University and their Director of Percussion.
He was both a teacher and an administrator there.
But his role as both Artistic Director and Executive Director at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival at the University of the South made him familiar with the arts in Chattanooga.
CSO leaders say he raised the visibility of the festival and increased enrollment.
CSO President Don McDowell says “He is an experienced educator and performing musician. And through his work with the Sewanee Festival he has come to know and love the Chattanooga region of Tennessee.”
Kilkenny praises what the CSO has going in Chattanooga.
“As a performing artist myself, I know firsthand the power of music to transform individuals and elevate community – there is much we can do together to further the connection between the symphony, opera, youth symphony, and the greater Chattanooga community, and I look forward to working with everyone.”
Kilkenny follows Samantha Teter who was Executive Director from 2016 until the end of last year.
