Chattanooga 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and 3.43 Mile Walk
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Today marked the 10-year anniversary of the Chattanooga 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and 3.43 Mile Walk at AT&T Stadium.
This is a heartfelt event honoring the 343 brave heroes who sacrificed their lives 23 years ago attempting to save the lives of others.
Participants of the community including firefighters in full gear from the Chattanooga Fire Department came together this morning to climb the stairs of the stadium.
This event was put together in order to symbolize those heroic efforts made by the firefighters and first responders on 9/11.
At today’s events, participants were each provided a lanyard of a hero that passed during the tragedy.
At the end of the stair climb, each individual rang the bell at home plate and read the name of their hero aloud.
During the climb, the radio traffic from the mornings of 9/11 played throughout the stadium.
Individuals today were able to purchase items commemorating and honoring today’s events and heroes.
This year marked the most donations ever received. All of the proceeds from this event stayed local to help first responders and veterans in need here directly in our community.
