Chattanooga and Knoxville score as most affordable cities in America
Consumer Affairs study rates best cities to move to if you want to save money
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga could reap the benefits of these high inflation times.
A ConsumerAffairs report finds that the city is the second most affordable big city to live in for 2024.
Knoxville leads the list, followed closely by Chattanooga. Nashville also makes the top 10.
Knoxville tops the list based on low unemployment, housing costs and taxes.
Chattanooga is just behind with similar low taxes, but with a higher median household income.
Chattanooga does have higher housing costs.
It is the smallest city in the Top 10 on the ConsumerAffairs list.
Nashville rates 7th based on it’s low cost health care.
New York City is the most expensive city in America, thanks to sky-high housing costs (225% over national average) and high taxes.
Detroit had the highest unemployment rate in the survey.
Seven out of the Top 10 most affordable cities are in the south, including Huntsville, Alabama (8th).
